Chev is the new Guild Master!

So, I just had the mandatory apartment meeting and learned about the internet filtering issue. Apparently the provider they use doesn't pick and choose what gets filtered; if it has a high enough rating (I'm guessing in 'unsavory/evil' things) it just gets out and out blocked. Heck, they even block wikipedia, which is beyond stupid.

What does this mean? Basically that for the next eight months (minus the few weeks I am home in December) I am going to be offline. The fact that we were on the verge of raiding is not lost on me. In fact, I'm spitting nails thinking about it.

That said, I'm leaving Chevalier in charge of things while I am unable to join in on the fun since he's done a lot for this guild, and I trust he'll continue to do so. That, and I really don't want to come back online next spring and find out the guild died while I was away. (Heck, the guild can die, but you all need to take me with you!)

In the meantime, I am not going to drop completely off the face of the earth. While I won't see you in game for reasons stated above, I will be haunting the forums, so don't be afraid to say hi, let me know how things are progressing. I really am sad to have to be offline so long, but there's nothing I can do. (I tried stealing the neighboring apartment's wireless this morning, but the lag was so bad that I was swimming through Shattrath. I'll have to post the pictures later.)

Give them heck, guys! Show Dethecus how the game is played! And Chev, do be kind to the lowbies, even if they grate on the nerves.

Oh! And for anyone owing me money, I guess this means you're safe for a few months. Heck, get to 70 so that when I get back on we can really knock those raid instances flat!

Thanks Rel, sorry I haven't had the chance to respond until now. Busy night of work. On behalf of all the guild members, you will be missed...as a healer and as a person. Needed somebody for that tough heroic instance? Rel was there. Needed someone to coax the new lowbies into sanity? Rel was there. Needed somebody to talk to when things looked grim? Rel was there.
In the next 8 months, we will not have Rel so readily available. I hope that I can replace Rel as that person that people will direct their questions and concerns too. Such is the life of a guild leader, and I am ready for the job. I will light the proverbial beacon across said virtual landscape, while protecting the guild with my crest of sha'tar and high quality plate armor. This guild will go ahead and conquer Karazhan, because I say we will. This guild will remain a nice, light-hearted guild, because it is my will to make it so. With that said, expect shit to go down. This guild needs a good kick in the ass, and my rise to power has come at the correct time.

I'm going to miss you Rel. Even for the two weeks i knew you, you were one of the best and lenient GM's i ever had. I hope you come back soon.

You can bet I'll be back! Just have to wait for the latter half of December, then hopefully I can have a cameo appearance for a few weeks. Come April I ought to be back on full time until I return to school..but I might consider staying somewhere else that doesn't have a crazy filter.

I've never heard of such a filter. I'd think you're much more likely to get yourself into trouble on AIM than WoW, but I guess we should keep that on the DL lest Rel lose that privilage.

The filter sounds pretty extreme. Anything that even contains mention of alcohol, drug use, porn, etc. gets the axe. (They blocked Wikipedia of all things!) Apparently anything that has a chat feature also gets blocked, but I'll count my blessings it so far only seems to apply to chat room sites, not IM programs themselves. (WoW must be guilty many times over, and yet in all the time I've played it I haven't come across trouble as I have being on sites or getting random IMs from people. Yikes.. At least in WoW I could literally attack those who bother me.)
